Autumn is coming and you have not yet thought about how to make your heating system smart and connected. Perhaps because you are convinced of having to face work at home or exorbitant expenses, or simply because of laziness.
And yet, there are now solutions available to everyone, which also has innumerable advantages.
The advantages of a smart and connected system
With a smart and connected system, you can make significant savings on your bill and enjoy greater well-being. With a traditional plant, in fact, to consume mono energy often one is forced to lower the temperature, giving up well-being. In the case of centralized systems, since it is not possible to modulate the amount of heat, expense and well-being are subject to variables that we cannot control.
Smart systems guarantee greater autonomy and flexibility in home heating management. Through the programmed switching on or off, the zone management, the coordination with the weather forecast, we will heat up only for the necessary time and quantity.
Furthermore, by installing the latest generation condensing boiler, the performance of your system will allow you to reduce consumption by up to 30%.
The wireless thermostat
To make the heating system smart without facing work at home, today the market offers wireless or wireless thermostats.
The thermostat is the central element of the heating system, as I have already explained to you in this post on energy saving.
Numerous scenarios can be set via wireless thermostats, depending on the brand and model.
Basically, these devices allow you to control the temperature, to set the personalized heating according to the users’ habits, and to manage the system remotely using special apps installed on the smartphone.
The most advanced models are able to modulate the temperature based on the outside temperature and weather forecasts. Or, through a GPS connection to the user’s smartphone, the thermostat will make an assessment of the time to return home to activate the heating in due time.
If you then have a voice assistant, you can control the thermostat with your voice, as long as the two devices are compatible. For this, check the manufacturer’s specifications before buying it.
Wireless thermostatic valves
And if you live in a condominium with central heating? Don’t worry, with wireless thermostatic valves you can have your smart heating.
These “heads” are applied to thermostatic radiator valves and, by connecting to the home wi-fi, work as a real thermostat.
Furthermore, with thermostatic valves we can control the temperature in a more selective way, intervening on the individual radiators according to need.
The latest generation boilers
I would like to remind you that, by law, since 2015 all boiler manufacturers have the obligation to produce and market appliances that use condensation technology on the European market.
If you need to change the boiler and you are undecided about the model, in a perspective that prefers the smart control of the home temperature, perhaps it is better to opt for a device with an integrated wireless system.
It is true that wireless thermostats can be connected to any boiler via a relay, as shown in the diagram below:
However, by purchasing a condensing boiler that can be remotely controlled and managed with a system developed by the manufacturer, you will avoid this step and any compatibility problem.
A system so structured, with regular maintenance of the boiler combined with good insulation of the house, will guarantee energy savings and a high level of well-being for many years to come.
